How does this portfolio calculator work?

Enter your starting investment, regular contributions, and select an investor profile. The calculator projects your portfolio value over 10 years using annual compounding — modelling capital growth and dividend yield separately. Enable IOZ historical mode to replay actual iShares ASX 200 ETF returns from FY2016–FY2025, including the FY2020 drawdown and FY2021 recovery.

What do the investor types mean?

Defensive (4% growth, 5% yield) reflects a lower-risk, income-focused portfolio. Balanced (6% growth, 4% yield) is a moderate blend of growth and income. Growth (8% growth, 3% yield) represents a higher-risk, capital-appreciation-focused approach. These are illustrative assumptions only — not a forecast or recommendation.

What about dividends and reinvestment?

When reinvest dividends is enabled, dividend income is added back into the portfolio each year and compounds with capital growth. When disabled, dividends are treated as cash income and removed from the portfolio.
